“Welcome to the Academy.”

He knew. Jackson always knew that he wanted to do something that helped people. It was a fourth grade when his class took a trip to the local firehouse. Everything about the place fascinated him. He wanted to learn more and soon got it stuck in his head that that was what he wanted to do. Most of the people at the firehouse had had family that were firemen before them. That wasn't the case for Jackson, but he just felt called to it. Eventually high school graduation came around and Jackson had already applied to the Fire Academy. All of his research online told him that it would be a long and hard road. But every part of Jackson knew that it was what he wanted. It took time but he made it through beginning his career as a candidate at Firehouse 24 in San Diego.

”Truck 37, Ambulance 21, Squad 67. House fire at 534 Spring St.”

Being a candidate wasn't easy. The firehouse was a family and Jackson was having to work his way into that family. To earn their trust and respect. He was 25 when he started out on the truck. But that wasn't his goal. In time he wanted squad. He wanted to be there, rescuing people. It wasn't that he didn't feel like truck saved anyone. No, he knew, he looked up to them all. They all were heroes. But there was just something more about being on squad that Jackson wanted. But his first call, it was the one that pushed that goal back. It was a house fire. It shouldn't have been too bad. But the family had their barbeque stored on the back porch. Hadn't thought anything of it until the fire. The fire spread too quickly, reaching the tank and blowing before they could clear the house. A family lost their father that day and Jackson lost a little piece of himself. He'd been with the others, he'd heard that father calling out to them only moments before the tank exploded, taking his life and bringing down the back of the house. They were lucky. They'd done what they could. It was what Jackson was told by everyone at the house. But he let it get to him just a little too much. He spiraled for a bit, remaining focused at work but he lost touch with his family for a few months as he tried to push it all from his mind. But pushed on, in part from his family reaching out to him, both blood and house.

”Truck 37, Ambulance 21, Squad 67. Battalion 4. Building fire at 500 block of West Chesney St.”

He'd done it. Nearly seven years at House 24, but he'd made it. He was finally on squad. These were his brothers by now. People that he knew and trusted with his life. Jackson had gained more than just a job, he'd gained a second family. The guys on truck gave him a hard time when he did switch over to squad, but it was all in love. His first call out with Squad 67 was to a building fire. The whole house was called out to fight the blaze. They cleared the building. But it was as they were all getting out, when they only had a few more yards to the door that the ceiling collapsed. Pinning one of the men. They all jumped to action, rushing to get him out, to get him to the ambulance. And they did. They got him out. But it was too late. That was the first time that Jackson lost a brother and he didn't take it well. He made it for about another week on shift before he took some of the furlow that he'd built up. Jefferson. The one they'd lost had been the one to mentor him when he'd first joined truck. He'd become a good friend and losing him hit Jackson hard. Even after the month long furlough that he took, he still wasn't all there when he came back. It was like his first call all over again. Except the spiraling kept going. Seeming like there was just no end in sight.
”Squad 67, Ambulance 21. Car in water at Johnson and First.”

The called that saved him just seemed far too simple. A car had spun out, smashing through a guardrail and into a lake. It was Jackson that dived in. It was Jackson that saved that young mother and her child's life. Jackson and his brothers on squad. But that woman, it was her tears of thanks a few weeks later that pulled Jackson out of the dark hole he'd been digging for himself. It was a reminder that what he did mattered. What he did saved lives and that he had to push through, that he knew, they all knew the dangers of their jobs.
Jackson is a pretty easy going guy. He’s a firefighter so he works a lot. 24 hours on shift, 48 off. I would imagine that a lot of his friends are either other firefighters or cops but they don’t have to only be those. He’s really nice and likes to meet new people and help out where he can.
I can’t think of exactly who his enemies would be. I mean, he’d probably be an enemy to people that don’t like firefighters or something like that? I’m not sure really. He’s a good guy and has a lot of that sense to him.
Jackson’s had a few girlfriends in the past and a few one night stands as well. Totally open for anything happening there. He had a thing for his eldest brother’s fiancee, before he asked her to marry him. But things have gone wrong between the two of them and Jackson is realizing that he still does have feelings for the woman, Chelsea Wright.
These could be co-workers or the like that maybe don’t get along quite as well with him, ones that they work together well but maybe aren’t to the point of calling each other friends. Jackson would be willing to be a mentor or something as well for any young firefighters as well.
